Spare Car Keys Cut & Programmed On-Site
Down to a single working key? That is the most expensive position a driver can be in. Poplockin cuts and programs a spare at your home or workplace across Metro Atlanta and Fairburn, GA — while you still have an original to copy, which is exactly what keeps the cost down.
Why a Spare Costs Far Less Than a Replacement
The price gap between duplicating a key and originating one after every key is lost is not a markup — it reflects genuinely different work. Understanding that difference is usually enough to convince a driver to sort it out early.
1. Your Working Key Carries the Data
With an original in hand we read the existing blade and the immobiliser pairing directly. Adding a second key to the vehicle is a routine, well-defined procedure — no recovery work required.
2. All Keys Lost Means Starting From Zero
With nothing to copy, we first have to gain entry, then pull key data from the vehicle itself and reprogram the immobiliser from scratch. It is a longer job on more specialised equipment, and on some platforms it involves a security wait period measured in hours.
3. A Spare Removes the Emergency Entirely
Losing a key with a spare at home is an inconvenience. Losing your only key is a roadside emergency, often at the worst possible moment. The spare is the difference between a planned appointment and an unplanned callout.
Spare Keys We Cut and Program
Transponder Chip Keys
The standard on most vehicles from the late 1990s onward. Blade cut to code, chip paired to your immobiliser so the engine actually starts.
Laser & Sidewinder Keys
High-security blades with a milled centre channel. These need computerised cutting equipment — a standard duplicator cannot reproduce them.
Proximity Smart Fobs
Push-to-start vehicles that unlock on approach. Programmed through the diagnostic port, including the emergency blade hidden inside the fob.
Remote Head Keys
One-piece keys with the remote built into the head. We supply the blank, cut the blade and pair both the chip and the remote functions.
Spare Car Key FAQs
Why is a spare key cheaper than replacing a lost one?
When you still have a working key, we can read the existing key and the vehicle immobiliser normally, then add a second key to the system. In an all-keys-lost situation the original data is gone, so the vehicle has to be accessed and the immobiliser reprogrammed from scratch — a longer, more specialised job. Cutting a spare while you still have one is consistently the cheaper route.
Can a hardware store not just copy my car key?
A hardware store can copy the metal blade, which will open the door but will not start the engine. Almost every vehicle built since the late 1990s carries a transponder chip that must be electronically paired to the immobiliser. Poplockin cuts the blade to factory code and programs the chip, so the spare actually drives the car.
Do you come to me, or do I visit a shop?
We come to you. Our mobile units carry computerised cutting equipment and dealer-level programming tools, so a spare key is produced at your home, workplace or wherever the vehicle is parked across Metro Atlanta and Fairburn.
Do you need the vehicle present to make a spare?
Yes. The blade can be cut from the original key or from your factory key code, but the transponder chip or proximity fob has to be paired to the vehicle itself. That pairing is done through the diagnostic port, so the car needs to be with us.
Can you make a spare proximity or push-to-start fob?
Yes. Alongside traditional transponder keys we program proximity smart fobs for push-to-start vehicles, covering domestic trucks and SUVs, Asian imports and most luxury platforms. Bring us the year, make and model and we will confirm coverage before dispatch.
